The Duel System
Astrafora Magic Academy keeps a traditional custom: the "duel." Officially sanctioned and even encouraged by the Academy, duels serve to sharpen magical combat skills and provide real battle experience.
To hold a duel, the date and participants must be registered with the Academy in advance, and the duel takes place under the supervision of a faculty member serving as witness. The venue is the mock battlefield, and spectating is open not only to students but to the general public. On duel days, the stands are always packed.
The rules are simple:
1. Follow the witness's instructions. If the signal to stop is given, cease fighting immediately. 2. Honor the registered list of participants. No substitutions are permitted. 3. Each participant is issued two protective amulets. When an attack lands on its bearer, the amulet shatters in their place, regardless of the attack's strength. Any means involving magic is fair game. The first to break both of the opponent's amulets wins. 4. If the witness declares a result, accept it — even under protest.
Until those two amulets shatter, the wizards throw everything they have at each other. For the students, it is a proving ground — and a true contest with their pride on the line.
